I ran the Lincoln Tunnel 5K to support the Special Olympics and it was such a cool experience!
There’s something surreal about running through the tunnel with thousands of people, music playing, everyone excited, all moving toward the same finish line.
But one thing kept crossing my mind the entire time:I did it alone.
Not in a dramatic or sad way. I signed up myself, drove there myself, waited at the start line myself, ran it myself, and left by myself.
And truthfully, I’m really glad I went.
But it made me think about how many people probably wanted to do something like that and didn’t. Or how many people did go alone simply because they didn’t have someone to go with.
Because the truth is, it’s not always easy to find connection as an adult, especially in a huge place like NYC.
You can want to:
- go to a run club
- see a concert
- walk around a street fair
- Hang out at a rooftop event
- or just do literally anything outside your apartment
…but then the question becomes: “Who do I go with?”
And sometimes, if you don’t have an answer to that question, you just stay home.
I think that’s part of why Flocker resonates with me so much.
The idea isn’t just “another app.” It’s the idea that there are probably people around you right now who want to do the exact same thing you do — they just don’t know how to connect with you.
Maybe someone else wanted to run that 5K and grab coffee after.
Maybe someone else was nervous about showing up alone.
Maybe someone else was sitting at home wishing they had plans.
That’s what excites me about what Flocker could become.
A way to make real-life connection feel easier and more natural again.
Not weeks of planning. Not endless group chats. Not just watching other people live life online.
Just:
“Hey, I’m doing this. Anyone want to join?”
Something simple. Human. Real.
Because, most of the time, the difference between staying home and making a memory is just knowing someone else is showing up too.
And if I’m being honest?
I probably would’ve loved having people to run that tunnel with.
If you’ve ever felt this way…
If you’ve ever wanted to do something but didn’t know who to go with, you’re probably not alone.
That’s exactly why we’re building Flocker.
